Jeff Hearn, prófessor í kynjafræði við hug- og félagsvísindasvið Örebro-háskóla í Svíþjóð og rannsóknaprófessor í félagsfræði við Huddersfield-háskóla, í Bretlandi, heldur áttunda fyrirlestur vormisseris, „Hnattrænn vandi karla … og hvernig á að bregðast við honum? Í fyrirlestrinum fjallar Jeff um nauðsyn þessa að endurskoða áherslur gagnrýnna rannsókna á körlum og karlmennsku í ljósi hnattrænna og þverþjóðlegra breytinga, svo sem hnattræns hagkerfis, fólksflutninga, upplýsinga- og samskiptatækni. Þetta skiptir ekki aðeins máli í rannsóknum og greiningu heldur einnig í stefnumótun og stjórnmálum. Þessi staða verður skoðuð með hliðsjón af spurningum um mótspyrnu, ábyrgð og mögulegum við brögðum við henni.

Men of the World … and what to do about them: resistance, responsibilities and responses

Jeff Hearn, will give the lecture, “Men of the World … and what to do about them: resistance, responsibilities and responses”, on 31 March at 12 o’clock in The National Museum’s lecture hall.

Jeff is a Guest Research Professor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, based in Gender Studies, Örebro University, Sweden; Research Professor of Sociology, University of Huddersfield, UK; Professor Emeritus, Management and Organization, Hanken School of Economics, Finland; and Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences, UK. His current research focuses is on gender, sexuality, violence, men, organizations and transnational processes. He is co-editor of Routledge Advances in Feminist Studies and Intersectionality book series, co-editor of NORMA: the International Journal for Masculinity Studies, and associate editor of Gender, Work and Organization. His latest books are Rethinking Transnational Men (edited with Marina Blagojević and Katherine Harrison, Routledge, 2013), Opening Up New Opportunities for Gender Equality Work (with Anna-Maija Lämsä et al., Edita, 2015), and Men of the World: Genders, Globalizations, Transnational Times (Sage, 2015).

In this session I address some of the implications of globalisation and transnationalisations, that is, transnational social processes across multiple arenas, such as global economy, migration, and ICTs, for assessing the changing state of critical studies of men and masculinities. These are relevant not only to matters of research, analysis and explanation, but also to those of politics and policies. In facing these matters, questions of resistance, responsibilities and responses in relation to men and masculinities are considered and contested.

The lecture is given in English, is open to everyone and admission is free.
