Call for lectures and articles

Deadline for abstract submission: 13 December 2022

Deadline for article submission: 1 November 2023

Article length: 5.000-7.000 words including footnotes

Research points: 10

RIKK – Institute for Gender, Equality and Difference at the University of Iceland is organising a lecture series and an edited volume on the topic of decolonisation. Lectures for the 2023 lecture series will be chosen through an open call. The lecture series will be followed by a publication of a peer-reviewed volume.

The series and volume will include diverse and interdisciplinary research that looks at various aspects of decoloniality and particularly research that looks at the underlying ideology of colonialism and imperialism, in the context of women’s and gender studies, feminism, and equality in a broad sense. Decolonisation as a political event has had its own repercussions for gender equality movements, laws, and policies, even as feminism, queer studies, and masculinities studies incorporate decolonial theories and approaches in their understanding of gender equality as well as their activism. Both post-colonial and decolonial work emphasise the many ways in which the lasting effects of colonisation continue to breed silences and distortion, sustain inequalities, weaken democracy, and decrease equality.

Deadline for abstract submission is 13 December 2022. Abstracts can be in Icelandic or English. However, lecturers need to be on site for their lecture. Authors are expected to receive 10 research points for the publication. Abstracts should be sent in a Word document in an email to elinbjork@hi.is and should include:

  • title
  • 150-200-word abstract
  • 4-5 keywords
  • author/s
  • 100-150-word bio

Deadline for finalised articles is 1 November 2023. For further information, please contact RIKK’s project manager, Elín Björk Jóhannsdóttir, via email: elinbjork@hi.is or phone: 525-5230.
