Confronting challenges of Domestic Violence: Contexts of Perpetrators within Nordic Countries

A conference/workshops will be held in Helsinki 30 November, 1-2 December 2016. The event will conjoin Nordic actors who work on various issues regarding perpetrators of domestic violence, such as researchers, therapists, NGOs, institutes and organizations that make up the support systems within the Nordic countries. The focus has to date largely rested on the survivors of domestic violence, while increased understanding of the perspectives and existing structures for perpetrators is vital to break cycles of violence. The primary focus rests on perpetrators of domestic violence, but three themes are prioritized: research on perpetrators; treatment options; and social frameworks and support systems. The conference consists of a session on each of these themes, and parallel workshops. The aim is to form a Nordic network, generate theoretical and practical knowledge within the field, provide a platform for sharing lessons learned and explore ways to address domestic violence via different channels.
