Fimmtudaginn 7. júní flytur dr. Regina Morantz-Sanchez, prófessor í kvenna- og kynjasögu við Michigan-háskóla, erindi sem ber heitið „Áhrif kyngervis á sögu læknisfræðinnar” (e. „How Gender Changed the History of Medicine“). Fyrirlesturinn verður haldinn í stofu 101 á Háskólatorgi kl. 12.00-13.00. Sagnfræðistofnun og Rannsóknastofa í kvenna- og kynjafræðum standa að fyrirlestrinum.

Í erindinu verður fjallað um með hvaða hætti félagssagan og kvenna-og kynjasagan, ásamt kvennahreyfingunni, umbreyttu sagnaritun um læknisfræði og læknavísindi á síðari hluta 20. aldar. Færð verða rök fyrir því að nýjar aðferðir innan sagnfræðinnar hafi vakið upp spurningar um heilbrigði, sjúkdóma og líkamann sem höfðu í senn áhrif á fræðasvið læknavísindanna og klíníska starfshætti.

How Gender Changed the History of Medicine

On Thursday 7 June, Regina Morantz-Sanchez, Professor of Women’s and Gender History at the University of Michigan, will give a lecture entitled “How Gender Changed the History of Medicine”. The talk will take place in Háskólatorg, room 101, at 12.00-13.00. It is hosted by the Centre for Women’s and Gender Research and the Historical Institute at the University of Iceland.

After a brief discussion of the state of the history of medicine in the mid-20^th century, this talk will explore the effects of the emergence of social history, women’s history, and gender history, which, together with the women’s movement, transformed scholarship on the history of medicine and science. I will also argue that new ways of thinking in history raised questions about health, disease, and the body that eventually influenced medical science research and clinical practice.
